Walter Jayvon Plummer and Akiya Gabrielle Bagley

SUITLAND, Md. – In a significant development, Akiya Gabrielle Bagley and Walter Jayvon Plummer were arrested following a violent robbery and shooting incident that took place on June 27, 2024, in Suitland, Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The Prince George’s County Police Department responded to a distress call at the 4700 block of Towne Park Road, where they discovered an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident prompted an in-depth investigation by the Homicide Detectives and Forensic Investigators, who processed the scene and recovered evidence, including a 9mm Polymer 80 handgun and a 9mm fired cartridge casing, according to court documents.

Surveillance footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspects involved in this violent robbery. The video, as detailed in the official documents, revealed a group of suspects approaching a group of juvenile males, including the decedent and his friends. The suspects brandished handguns and demanded property from the victims. During the confrontation, one of the suspects fired a single shot, striking the decedent and causing his fatal injury. The suspects then fled the scene, triggering a manhunt by the police.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Akiya Gabrielle Bagley, who was found in possession of a handgun in her vehicle. Official documents indicate she was charged with multiple offenses, including assault in the first and second degrees, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and being an accessory after the fact to murder. Bagley’s involvement in the incident was corroborated by witness statements, as well as video and audio evidence, which placed her at the scene and linked her to the criminal activities.

Walter Jayvon Plummer, another key suspect, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Court documents reveal that Plummer was identified through surveillance footage and witness testimonies as one of the primary perpetrators. He faces charges including assault in the first and second degrees, armed robbery, reckless endangerment, and felony use of a firearm. The investigation revealed that Plummer, along with the other suspects, engaged in a coordinated effort to rob the victims, leading to the tragic outcome.

During the robbery, Plummer approached Victim 1 and removed a black and white AR-style weapon from Victim 1’s person. It was later revealed in court documents that this AR-style weapon was not an actual firearm but an Orbeez Gel Blaster replica of a firearm. A witness to the incident, whose identity is protected for safety reasons, provided crucial information that helped the authorities piece together the sequence of events. According to the official documents, the witness described the chaotic scene and confirmed the suspects’ aggressive demands and subsequent flight from the scene. The suspects pursued the victims as they ran in fear, with one of the victims being cornered and subsequently robbed.

After the initial confrontation, one of the suspects, Walter Jayvon Plummer, was found with a gunshot wound to his right arm. Court documents state that during the pursuit of the victims, the witness retrieved an AR-style pistol and, fearing for the safety of their child in a nearby courtyard, began to fire at the defendants and suspects, striking Plummer. Despite his injury, Plummer managed to flee the scene but was later apprehended at a medical facility where he sought treatment for his gunshot wound.

Bagley is accused of assaulting the victim in the first degree, which carries a potential penalty of up to 25 years in prison. She is also charged with conspiring with Walter Jayvon Plummer to unlawfully and feloniously rob the victim using a dangerous weapon, and with aiding the primary suspect after the commission of the felony, as indicated in the court documents. Plummer is accused of assaulting a victim in the first degree with a dangerous weapon, robbing a victim with a dangerous weapon, which carries a substantial prison sentence, and reckless endangerment, where his actions created a significant risk of death or serious physical injury to the victims.
