Oxon Hill, Md. – A police-involved fatal pedestrian collision in Oxon Hill is under investigation by the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) after a woman was struck and killed while fleeing across Interstate 495 on foot. The incident, which occurred on the night of February 1, 2025, began when police located a stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the 6000 block of Oxon Hill Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, the stolen car had been taken in a carjacking earlier in the day. As officers from the Prince George’s County Police, Forest Heights Police, and Edmonston Police departments conducted surveillance on the vehicle, an adult woman entered and attempted to drive away. Police moved in to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply and crashed in the rear of the parking lot. After the crash, she abandoned the vehicle and ran toward the interstate.
While attempting to cross I-495, the woman was struck by two passing vehicles, both of which were uninvolved in the initial police action. The impact was fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the vehicles that struck her remained on site and cooperated with investigators. There were no reported injuries to anyone else involved.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is assisting the IID in investigating the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision. The IID has confirmed that it will release the name of the deceased and any involved officers within two business days unless an extension is necessary. Additionally, body-worn camera footage from the incident is expected to be made public within 20 business days, though delays may occur if further witness interviews are required or if the footage needs to be reviewed by family members first.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information about the case to contact the IID at (240) 576-7070 or by email at IID@oag.state.md.us.
